This year the club is looking to repeat a lot of the same successes from 2024, and build upon that foundation with new and exciting plans for PCFC players, parents, and supporters. Executive Director Korey Avery shares some key developments:
“Last year we had 3 amazing tournaments for the U11 and U13 age groups. We seen some unbelievable matches, highlight reel goals and saves, and a lot of smiles. We are looking forward to adding new teams to our New Scotland Academy divisions (U12, U14), and enhancing the experience for everyone.”
Avery also states that jamborees are planned for the Little Striker and Novice Footballer divisions this season: “We will have 3 jamborees this summer for the U10 and U8 age groups, and the dates will be locked in by the end of January so that families can plan accordingly. We didn’t expect to have players in that age bracket in Brookfield last year, and we had to cobble together some jamborees during the season. We want to do a better job communicating up front to ensure that parents have that information earlier this year.”
One of the other exciting developments last season was beach soccer. Kids and parents alike enjoyed getting down to Melmerby Beach and relaxing in the sand. Avery says the club will be bringing beach soccer back this year:
“Beach soccer was a huge hit last summer. The kids had a blast playing in the sand, and could cool off in the ocean afterwards. Parents loved the laid back approach as well, and could relish a peaceful evening at the shore. We are truly lucky to have such a beautiful place in our community. Manchester United may have Old Trafford, but Pictou County FC has the Merb!”
The Pickaxes will also show up again in the Westville Canada Day Parade. Last year the club entered a float, and players rode along or marched behind. Avery says that it was a huge team-building activity:
“The Canada Day parade sticks out as one of the highlights from last year. We were fortunate to have a flatbed truck donated for the day by Kenny U-Pull, driven by our own Tony Edghill, decorated by Tony, his wife Cendrine, and a number of parent volunteers. The kids had a blast chanting and singing, waving to the crowd, and hanging with their mates. I think that some of the parents were cheering louder than the kids! It was a great way for everyone to be part of the team outside of the football pitch, and hopefully we helped create some interest in the beautiful game for the kids watching along the parade route. We are looking forward to having an even bigger contingent of players join us for the parade this year on July 1st.”
There is also some big news on the club kit front with Pictou County FC launching its new 3rd jerseys for its 7th season. The Pickaxes will take a break from their traditional black and white kit, and move to orange jerseys for 2025. There will also be gray options for New Scotland Academy teams should there be more than one team fielded. More details to follow.
In addition to new kits the club plans to launch a line of clothing for both players and parents. Club members will be able to show their Pictou County FC pride, and be able to share the experience as a family. Players and parents will be able to visit the club website and order online.
Stay tuned for all of the latest developments!
